So you can edit the model, make it pretty, the FEA/CFD/MACHINE it. I wonder if spaceclaim is more directed at the CAMend, or pre-manufacture market, where engineers design something, and you fix all the flaws that engineers simply don't understand, like how to use a screwdriver, since they don't bend 90 degrees or make an S bend to get onto a phillips head screw. It does not send back the history tree, because thats a solidworks thing, and pretty spaz. *Dramatisation*Īll I can tell you is in Spaceclaim I can draw, edit, change, create and build solid models or 2D sketches near instantly, I can import solidworks parts AND assemblies, change them, then send them back as catia files or parasolids which I believe solidworks can open. Solidworks errked me for years since it was draw on a plane, click 6000 0000 buttons then make a square. I came from a time when 3d modelling was in rhino and wings3D. Warning - I am extremely biased towards spaceclaim! At this time we do only a small amount of actual design work. shop drawings and machined parts from these files. The files we get from our customers range from simple parts to complex assemblies. Also does this flow both ways, can SW open SC files without issues? It seems to me for the slight difference in price we should go with SW as we will know we can open files without any loss of data. The main question (answered yes by SC sales) is does Space Claim treat SW files as native format? I cannot believe this is true without verification from a third party. The engineer in charge is taken with space claim based on a demo. We are looking to upgrade our CAD platforms and while at first we were going the oblivious route with SW, Space Claim has reared it's head. The majority and all of our large customers use Solid Works, we are still on AutoCAD. I looked thru past posts but info is dated.
